US judiciary says few workplace misconduct complaints concern judges

The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts’ (AO) 2023 workplace report, released this week, indicated that a negligible number of internal dispute resolution complaints were filed by law clerks against judges. The Report did little to dispel calls from lawmakers and law clerk advocates for sweeping reform, including extending federal anti-discrimination protections to more than 30,000 exempt judiciary employees.

According to LAP’s President and Founder Aliza Shatzman, “law clerks have frequently told LAP that they still would not under the current systems report misconduct because they do not believe their concerns will be taken seriously and robustly investigated.”
