Database of Judicial Clerk Reviews Poised to Launch

LAP's President and Founder Aliza Shatzman spoke with Law360’s Aebra Coe about LAP’s Centralized Clerkships Database, which is poised to launch this school year. Aliza explained that the new database will help bring transparency to the clerkship application process so those looking for clerkships can evaluate whether their work styles and personalities will align well with the judges with whom they apply, and prospective clerks and law schools are alerted to judges who mistreat their clerks. Aliza shared her belief, based on anecdotal evidence, that the mistreatment of judicial clerks is widespread - although the judiciary has historically resisted data collection efforts - and that there has not yet been a #MeToo reckoning within the judiciary. “The urgency of change is real," Aliza said. "Law clerks cannot wait another year for reforms."
